Tips for optimal performance at work during your divorce

As you go through a divorce, you’ll learn that it has an impact on your life in a number of ways. In addition to personal changes, divorce can also take a toll on your career.

Here are three top tips for performing at a high level even when you’re undergoing the divorce process:

  1. Separate your personal life and work life. This is easier said than done, but you should do your best to separate your divorce from your career. For example, don’t check your ex-spouse’s social media accounts when you’re supposed to be working. This has a way of slowing you down and zapping your energy.

  2. Be honest. If you have any reason to believe your divorce will present challenges at work, talk to your supervisor about the best way to cope. You may find that they are more than willing to help you out.

  3. Get support. Now that you’re in the process of putting your marriage behind you, your life will change in many ways. For example, you may be responsible for dropping your children off at school. There is support to be had — you simply need to know where to look.

It’s never easy to perform your best at work when you have problems in your personal life. Fortunately, when you adjust your way of thinking, you should be able to separate the two.

The most important thing to remember is that the divorce process will come to an eventual end. At that point, you can search for a new normal, allowing you to feel better about all aspects of your life, including your career and its trajectory.
