Rush hour safety: There are things you need to do

If you live in or around Miami, Florida, you are no stranger to rush hour traffic. Just when you think the flow of traffic is picking up, you find yourself at a standstill once again.

As frustrating as it can be, this isn’t a time to lose your cool. Instead, you need to remain calm and adjust your driving style. Here are a few tips for doing so:

  1. Don’t rush: If you begin to rush, you’ll also begin to take risks that increase the chance of an accident. There’s no fast way through the traffic, so there’s no point in being in a hurry.

  2. Change your route: If you continually hit rush hour traffic in the same area, consider changing your route in the future. You may find that you have to drive more miles, but that you can avoid some of the logjams that are slowing you down.

  3. Stay in your lane: It’s easy to believe that the best way to make time is to search for the fastest moving lane. This won’t do you much good. Instead, it increases the risk of a crash.

  4. Leave more space: Forget about tailgating in rush hour traffic. Leave yourself a few extra feet so you have space to stop in a hurry should it be necessary.

With these rush hour safety tips guiding you, it’s easier to avoid trouble on the road.

If another driver causes an accident, move to the shoulder of the road and call 911. As you wait for help to arrive, administer first aid to any injuries you’ve suffered. Once you receive medical treatment at a local hospital, you’ll have time to file an insurance claim and learn more about your legal rights.
