Don’t say the wrong thing after a car accident

After a car insurance accident, you’ll find yourself pulled in many different directions. Most importantly, you need to address your injuries as quickly as possible. Along with this, follow the direction of your medical team as you work toward a full recovery.

As soon as possible, you’ll want to file a claim with your car insurance company. This sounds simple, but there are dangers lurking around every corner. Here are four things you should never say to your insurance agent:

  1. You can record me: You don’t have to agree to this, so don’t let your agent pressure you into it. Politely decline the request and move on with the rest of the conversation.

  2. I am sorry: You never want to use the word “sorry” when speaking with your agent after an accident. This could imply fault, even if the other party caused the accident.

  3. I feel fine: Not all injuries exhibit symptoms immediately following an accident. For example, soft tissue and brain injuries could take several hours or days to impact your health.

  4. Whiplash: This one word is thrown around all too often by people who are seeking money. Even if you have a back or neck injury, stop yourself from using this word.

It’s important to file an insurance claim shortly after an accident. It’s only the first step in the process, but it’s one you have to take.
