Do not accept cash after a car accident

| Aug 16, 2019 | Uncategorized |

After any car accident, it is paramount to notify the police and for all parties to see doctors. This is especially important for more severe crashes, such as one that occurred recently in Milton, Florida. One driver failed to notice traffic slowing down on I-10, resulting in a collision involving three vehicles.

Often, car accidents result in paperwork and phone calls, but it is essential to get the compensation you need. However, some people may offer you cash at the scene of the accident if you will agree not to report it. There are several reasons why you never want to accept this money.

You do not know the extent of the damage

Right after a car crash, you do not know how bad your injuries are. The adrenaline from the crash may keep you from feeling aches and pains until much later. You also do not know how much it will cost to fix your car. Even if the car looks fine, there could be damage to components underneath the body. When you take cash, you may not be able to get in touch with the other driver again to get more money. You also seriously jeopardize any future insurance claims from the incident because you already took money.

You will not have money for other expenses

In addition to medical expenses and fixing the car, other costs may come up after an auto accident. You may need to rent a car for a few days while your vehicle is in the shop. You may also need to go through rehabilitation if your injuries were severe enough. There are plenty of expenses associated with car accidents. It can all add up quickly, so you do not want to inconvenience yourself. Cash may seem convenient in the moment, but you need to think about your long-term well-being.
